The flagship espresso that started it all. Some say it tastes strong and spicy, others find it smoky and sweet. We think it tastes exactly as its name suggests. A classic with a vibrant twist. As a short-brewed ristretto, the blend of directly sourced Malawi Arabica and Indian Robusta unfolds its full potential. What are the capsules made of?
We focused on two things when designing our capsules: taste and environmental footprint. That's why the capsule material is sugarcane-based, GMO-free, and certified compostable according to European standard EN 13432. The key advantage of this material over other compostable capsules is its aroma-tight seal, which guarantees an oxygen barrier. This ensures that the coffee stays fresh and tastes great for a long time.
Can I compost the capsules myself or throw them in the organic waste bin?
Yes and no. Unfortunately. While the capsules would decompose in your home compost, this can take many months, as the right conditions are crucial for proper decomposition. The organic waste bin is another issue… Most industrial composting facilities that process the contents of organic waste bins are designed for a shorter decomposition time than is necessary for the capsules. Therefore, we work with a waste disposal company that separates the coffee from the capsules and feeds it into a biogas plant. The remaining material is used to generate heat and electricity. It is incinerated in a CO2-neutral manner, as the material is based on renewable resources and not oil. The best way to dispose of them is to return the used capsules to our roastery on your next visit. Simply collect them in the same packaging you bought them in. We'll then take care of proper recycling. If that's not an option for you, please dispose of them with your regular household waste, not in the yellow or organic waste bin.
How do I get the maximum flavor out of the capsule?
We recommend a ratio of 1:4.5. That means 4.5 times the amount of liquid to coffee. This is roughly equivalent to a ristretto or a slightly shorter shot than the shortest standard setting on your Nespresso® machine. Most machines can be adjusted by holding down the button for the desired setting during the brewing process and releasing it when the desired amount is in the cup. Of course, the most precise method is to use scales to measure the amount. However, you can also prepare the capsule using your machine's standard settings. Our capsules taste wonderful this way too.
How long do the capsules last?
The capsules have a shelf life of 12 months from the production date and, thanks to the oxygen barrier, offer you the usual delicious taste during this time.
Why do your capsules cost more than usual?
Our capsules contain the same coffees from our partner farmers, so you can enjoy RVTC Roastery's coffee at home if you have a capsule machine. Just like our roasted coffees, our capsules go through the same high-quality, socially and environmentally responsible value chain from sourcing to roasting. This is why our capsules may cost slightly more than the products you're familiar with from the supermarket.
